The Brisbane City Hall has been closed since January 2010 for a three-year $215 million restoration due to it being built on swampy ground. It was opened in April 1930 and later the council acquired more property and in 1975 opened the administration center along with a 20 floor tower and the plaza. There is a pipe organ with 4600 pipes built in 1892 that was moved to city Hall and was dismantled in December of 2009 and removed for storage while the restoration is going on and will be reinstalled when the restoration of the city hall is completed.
Recently the Brisbane Roar soccer club won the championship and they had a parade through the Queen Street Mall up to King George Square for a celebration ceremony there. I went down to do some window shopping and happened to see the parade on its way to the square and was even hugged by the Mascot!
The game ended regulation in a 0-0 tie. Then they were down 0-2 in extra time with four minutes left and tied it up in the last seconds to send it into penalty kicks and ended up winning 4-2. Many of the crowd had left thinking it was over, one of whom was an American coworker of Bob's who is a big soccer fan. He couldn't believe he missed it!

Those are cute little cars that the football players are riding in! Was the mascot giving everyone hugs or did he pick you out of the crowd?
