We walked through the gardens to Mrs. Macquaries point to see Mrs. Macqauries chair. Elizabeth Macquarie was the wife of Major-General Lachlan Macquarie (1810-1821) the Governor of New South Wales. A road was constructed just for her and he had convicts carve a chair into the sandstone rock at the edge of the point for her to sit and view the harbor. It was a beautiful walk and we grabbed some water and coffee at the top above the sandstone chair and sat to enjoy the view.
Along with the many tourists were walkers and joggers getting their exercise. We succumbed to the tourist trade and got a souvenir picture taken of us with the opera house and bridge in the background. It will be a wonderful keepsake of a fantastic day in Sydney.

On our way back through the gardens we saw a wedding at one of the many
venues that are available for rent. |
